Brief Description:  Tips, antennas

Happy Fathers Day. My first one without my Dad. That sucks, huh? Anyway, spent a little time on the plane this morning. First, I finished up the VS tip, and then riveted it on. THEN I started thinking about the clearance from the top rudder tip, and guess what? I needed to trim about an inch off the end of the VS tip I just spent two days fabricating. So I had to cut the new section off and start over. After getting the first layer laid up, I moved on to the Wing Tips. I first just goofed around test fitting them, and then decided it will be much easer when the wings are horizontal, on the plane. So then I decided to install the marker beacon antenna in the right wing tip and the VOR antenna in the left wingtip. I did that, and then removed the paper protective cover from the mirror lenses in the nav and strobe light on the left wing, and then installed the pexiglass cover I had painted the edges of while I was at Altus in March. I finished installing the VOR antenna, and then epoxied the end of the flat antenna against the bottom of the wing tip, weighted down with bucking bars, so I couldn't finish up the nav/strobe light in that one. Later today maybe. Indeed, I went back later and put the reinforcement strips inside of the VS tip, and then cleco'd it in place, and added a coat of epoxy and microbubbles. Then I tightened down the screws in the right tip nav/strobe light assembly, slightly cracking one of the mirrors, and removing the protective film, and screwed on the pexiglass cover. Of course, I had to try them out to make sure I had the green on on the right, and the red one on the left. I did.
