Brief Description:  Wing Tips

Determined the cut lines and drew them onto the tips. Then using the dremmel, trimmed the right wing tip. Cleaned up the edges a bit, and then tried out the fit. Nice fit, after trimming a little more for an aileron hinge hardware. Used a combination of spring clamps and duct tape to hold the tip in basic alignment with the aileron, and then drilled. Started at leading edge, and alternated top and bottom. Tip is about 1/4 inch out of alignment, which hopefully I can fix when I drill to final size, or I could just adjust the aileron slightly. Either way, the aileron will still be in acceptable alignment with the wing. After that, I removed and put in the tip rib. I decided that it will look better with the flanges on the inside of the tip, so I put it in upside down. The tip is symmetric, so it didnt' matter, other than the riveting was much harder. Not sure I would do it again if I did it over. But, I did that one that way, so I'll do the Left one that way too. The rivets were doable, but the ones near the trailing edge were tough. Last, I put the horizontal rib in, drew the rivet lines, drilled a few holes, and then epoxied the rib into place. After it cures, I will drill the remainder, deburr, countersink and rivet. Then I'll be putting the platenuts on the tip for attachment at the airport. I sent another email to the county mayor, asking about my application to build a hangar. So far, nothing is happening with that, and I really don't have many options. That makes about 78 hours in June, another awesome month. April May and June were all over 75 hours. July should be pretty good too, so as long as I get my panel in July, I don't see why I won't be flying by September or October.
