Brief Description:  ELT Mount

Seemed like I didn't get much done today. Drilled out holes in the baggage bulkhead to #19 for the #8 screws. Found one hole I drilled that was a little too close to the edge of the lower bulkhead, so I drilled another. Just one extra hole in the bulkhead. Maybe I'll find a use for it later. Then, I decided to go ahead and fabricate the bracket to hold the ELT under the baggage floor, like I've seen other builders. Basically, measured out the size of the hole, drilled holes in the corners, cut out the straight sections with my dremel, deburred edges of hole. Then cut the cover out of a piece of .040 sheet that I ordered to make the battery door. I'm pretty sure I still have enough for that door. Then, lined up the door over the hole, clamped in position, and drilled pilot holes where the screw holes will go. Cleco'd as I went. Finally, drilled to final size, and drilled holes for the platenuts on the cover. Three of the platenuts will be riveted in assembly with the baggage rib, that provides additional support for the elt cover/bracket. Cleaned up the holes and primed the platenuts after countersinking them. Made a spacer for the forward part of the bracket that attaches, so that it will lay flat. Now it's all ready to rivet. Finally, I dimpled some of the holes I could see need dimpling. There will be plenty more, as all these platenuts get drilled. Later I went back and riveted on the platenuts onto the baggage floor where the ELT goes. I also riveted the bracket onto the ELT cover, and test fit the cover onto the Baggage floor with the ELT strapped down. Great fit. Now I feel ready to tackle the battery compartment door, which will be a little larger, and because it's through the exterior skin, will have to be reinforced. I also drilled out another optional hole for wiring through the bulkheads. I drilled out a hole for the ELT cable in the forward baggage bulkhead, and one for the ELT antenna in the rear baggage bulkhead. The COAX cable that came with the ELT is too short to be useful
