Brief Description:  Forward Fuselage Stuff

Finished drilling the left Aux. Longeron, and then fitted and drilled the right aux longeron. Made the two angle clips and fitted the 719 L and R forward skin stiffeners. Drilled the clip to the longeron, and then fitted the whole thing in and drilled it. Had a little edge distance problem with the left clip, so I made another clip to go on the bottom. I'll leave the one on top, just for a little extra reinforcement. The edge distance isn't ideal, but it's mostly redundant anyway. Did both sides, the right one came out good, after making the edge distance on the first, I was more careful on the second. Gave all these longerons a little twist, as described, with the cresent wrench and the vice method. Made the lower longerons by cutting a 4 inch chunk out of one end of the angle and smoothing til it was flush. Gave the last 4 inches a little twist to fit into the engine mount. Clamped into place, and drilled the 4 vertical bolt holes (AN-3). Finally, I fabricated the 684 Gussets by cutting and nibbling where appropriate and bending the edges up slightly to lay flat inside the firewall, aux longeron and lower longeron intersection. Clamped and drilled the vertical holes from the outside after peeling the side skin up a little. Enough for one day. By the way, I've been building my fuselage right side up, even though Van's recommends upside down. I've had a few instances where it would be easier upside down, but it hasn't been too bad. It was easier to join the center section and aft sections right side up, and I haven't been able to round up any one to help me flip it, so I'm just moving on. I can see riveting will definitely be easier upside down. Eggenfellner is having a September sale, so I'll save over $3000 by ordering now, instead of the spring. I'll get my engine a few months early, but better early than late. So, the check is in the mail.
