Brief Description: Right Elevator - 03 - Finished Stiffeners
- Used 3/32" pop rivet dimpler to dimple the right bottom aft most trailing edge stiffener holes. - Back riveted all right bottom stiffeners except aft most holes. Used MK-319-BS pop rivets because you can't get the rivet gun in there with out stressing the pre-bent trailing edge. I didn't want to accidentally introduce any stress cracks. - Clecoed the top right stiffeners and final drilled. - Removed and deburred holes in skin and stiffeners. - Deburred all edges of the right top stiffeners and scuffed them for primer with Scotch brite pad. - Dimpled all holes in right top stiffeners. - Primed all right top stiffeners. - Dimpled top right elevator skin holes for stiffeners. Had to use pop rivet dimpler in trailing edge. - Back riveted stiffeners to skin. Used MK-319-BS on trailing edge. - Deburred the edges of the right elevator skin. - Cut a 2"x6"x8' piece of wood into 45"L and 51" pieces. This is the wood needed for the trailing edge jig, used to fold the trailing edges. - Realized the hinges I had purchased were too big for the 2" x 6"s. - Tried to fold the trailing edges without the hinges, it didn't work to well. Will have to buy smaller hinges. Moving on to next step. - Clecoed right elevator spar reinforcement plates and nut plates onto spar. Final drilled (E-610, 611 and K-1000 nut plates). - Finished the edges and fluted the right elevator counterbalance ribs (E-703, 704). - Clecoed counterbalance ribs together and final drilled. - Attached ribs to spar and final drilled to spar. - Removed ribs from spar and attached counterbalance and counterbalance skin (E-714, 713). - Drilled lead counterbalance to #12, using the pilot holes in the counterbalance skin (E-713). - Removed counterbalance and attached assembly to spar. - Attached root rib (E-709) and final drilled to #40 on spar.
*** NOTE: Need to make the 2"x6" jig to finish folding the trailing edge of the skin to continue with right elevator.
Riveters tape for back riveting.
Riveted both top and bottom Right Elevator stiffeners on skin.
