Brief Description:  Horizontal Stabilizer - 09 - Right HS Section

- I had been struggling with which preperation and priming method to use. Originally I was just going to follow suit with Dan Checkoway and use Alumiprep to clean and etch then Alodine the parts and finally use Akzo (2 Part Epoxy) primer. The issue I was having with this method, besides the fact that it is a lengthy process, is handling all the chemicals and not knowing what to do with the Hazardous waste. I visited a fellow RV builder in my area, Axel Alvarez, and he was just washing the parts and using NAPA's 7220 self etching primer. The idea of cleaning the parts with a household product then just spraying the self etching primer on the part with an aerosol paint can sounded like a really good plan. Saves tons of time, no clean up (paint gun, alumiprep disposal, alodine recapture, etc.) and it is a product I can get locally and not have to pay special Hazardous Material's shipping and handling. Thanks Axel... good tip!

- Washed all Right HS section parts with a household biodegradable cleaner/degreaser. Then set them out to dry.
- Laid out parts on new paint stand (homemade chicken wire contraption - not my idea... saw it on another builders website. When I figure out who it was, I'll come back and give them credit). I'll put a picture of it in the Workshop section.
- Sprayed the first side with NAPA 7220 (self etching) primer. It went on really easy, didn't drip and dried fast. Once dry, flipped the parts over and sprayed the other side.
- NOTES: These parts took almost an entire can of this product. It costs about $8.49 per can locally (standard spray paint can). We'll see if this way is cheaper or the same considering the time savings and being 2 products in one.
* UPDATE: Used MSDS's to compare several products around the area. I found a Dupont product that is identical (other than some chalk that is in the NAPA product) and it is much cheaper. I had asked NAPA to order some more paint for me and went back when I needed it and they neglected to order it. I went to a local automotive
