Brief Description:  Fuel Tanks

I have spent the last week reading and making a decision on a few thinks. The first one was I am going with a fuel injection engine; the second is I'm going with float type fuel sending units in the tanks. The fuel injection decision wasn't too hard to make, it just means I spend more money. The fuel sender decision took more time to decide. I could have gone with a capacitance type or the float type. I didn’t see a clear advantage over either one so I went with the float type. I don’t feel like listing all the pro’s and con’s here so trust me on this one.

Also this week I worked on the flop tube in the left tank. I drilled the hole in the F-405 tank attach bracket for the bulkhead fitting that attaches the flop tube to the fuel line. If you install a flop tube and you are using float type sending units you have to move the sending unit so as not to interfere with the flop tube. That means moving it to a new location. I will take a look at that a little more in the coming weeks.

I cut the 5.25 dia. hole for the tank excess plate in the inboard rib. A lot of people hate to use the fly cutter, or as I like to call it "the whirling wheel of death" I don't mind it to much. I guess that is because I have used this tool a bunch over the years, one of the advantages of being an Aerospace Sheet Metal Tech.
