Brief Description:  Purchased Wing

In February 2012 I found a set of wings from a young man in Spokane, WA. We made a deal and my wife and I flew up to Washington to inspect the wings and bring them home. It turned out to be a one heck of a trip. The flight up was uneventful; the bad started happening the next morning. Matt the seller was to pick us up at 8am in the morning to take us to his house to do the inspection of the wing kit. At 8am I get a call from Matt that he has been in a car wreck and would be there as soon as he could. About an hour later Matt shows up in a police car. His truck was damaged so bad he could not drive it so the nice policeman gave him a ride to the hotel where we were staying. For the most part the rest of the meeting went as planned. Except for the rental truck being 30 miles away from the location of the wings, my fault on that one. Because of Matt's mishap we left Spokane later than anticipated, which put us driving at night in a rental truck in a place we had never been before. Now being from Arizona we don't get to see to much snow or for that matter drive in it. And yes you guessed it, it snowed. Not bad as snow storms go but not what I wanted to drive in with a set of RV-7 wing in the back. We only made it as far as Missoula, MT the first day. The plan was to be in Salt Lake City the first night. My wife’s sister lives there and it is a nice place to stop a visit. The next morning we headed out to make SLC. We were going to be a day behind but no big deal. As all pilots know weather messes up more plans than anything else. As we pulled in to SLC I started to get that “I don't feel well” feeling. Just to make this story a little shorter, I got sick on the way home and missed a week of work because of that trip. My wife now refers to the wing as the wings from hell.
