Taking a less traveled path on choice of comm antenna. I'm going to try the internally mounted Advanced Aircraft Electronics Model 5T, The real test will be comm quality and range - TBD.
The antenna needs to be mounted on a non-conductive surface. Since this is a test, I didn't want to put a lot of time and effort into a mount. Had some leftover Kydex. Formed a channel and reindorced with opposing short channels. These were glued in with T-88 epoxy.
Mounted just aft of rear bulkehead. In level flight, this angle will be close to vertical.
