Had entertained a possible pushbutton latch mechanism that I had found in Sport Aviation - Nov 1969. Decided that was too complicated and prone to failure.
New plan is a idea developed by Paul Mingela (Bearhawk builder).
Going with spring loaded latches operated by cam lever and 1/16" control cable. Opting out of solid 1/4" rod per the plans. My thinking is the cable would be lighter and have less alignment issues.
Criteria for latches: want 5/8" pin travel minimum max spring OD = .500" min spring ID = .260 " 10 lb pull
Ordered McMaster-Carr compression spring part #9434K115 OD = 0.480" ID = 0.390" Length = 1.5" Closed Length = 0.400" Pull = 11 lbs/in
