Decided to pull out the RV-9A preview plans and see if they are better than the RV-6A fullsize drawings. Later CAD and pre-punched kits tend to have better details on the plans. Sure enough, much better.
In the meantime, I spent a lot of time checking on other cowl issues; 1) are shims needed, 2) how to secure the cowl components during alignment and trimming. Concluded that IF shims were required, it could be avoided by using fiberglass to build-up the cowl thickness for the fit. Found sufficient means to secure cowl.
