Brief Description:  Sump swap

Been a busy week at work, good for business, bad for airplane building. Good for airplane parts budget though.

Finally got around to pulling off the J2A small intake sump and temporarily handing the A3A large intake to keep the engine 'closed up'. Of course, removal of the sump requires removal of the pipes and J2A (very large) oil cooler which get in the way of the wrenches. And, the intake tubes to the cylinders come off, and that means also moving the bottom plug wires. Plug guides attached to the oil cooler tubing had to be removed.

The bolts, and bolt/nut combinations, are tricky to remove in the tight confines of an assembled engine, Slow wrench bending and caution to collect all the nuts, washers, and lock washers.

The contrast between the 'normal' size oil cooler from the Cherokee 180 installation (left #2) and the much larger J2A Robinson R22 helicopter configuration is dramatic. I'm probably looking at the smaller cooler, and baffle mounted but don't know that yet.

This sump swap is the last step in parting out the A3A engine.
