Removed my rudder and installed another from an RV-8, to eliminate the oild canning effect on the skin. However, the LE (leading edge) of the rudder had to be repaired because the overlap was uneven. Drilled out the pull rivets and used a 3/4" backing strip to add material, then re-drilled a better alignment and used pull rivets to finish it. Better, rounder LE resulted with minimum wt added and no change on the swinging wt.
Ground down the overabundance of fiberglass used to 'fair' the joint at the top fairing and will use some micro to fill, if needed. Reduced wt.
Ground off the fiberglass used on the bottom fairing and drilled out the rivets to remove the mounting strips for the bottom fairing. And cleaned up skin, then primed for installation of my original bottom fairing with tail light/strobe.
