Brief Description:  Building the Turtleback Form

This chapter is a combintaion of two sets of plans. The regular plans for the Cozy Mk IV guide the overall installation; however, the plans for the Cozy Classic written by Uli Wolter were used to modify the canopy from the standard side hinged canopy to a Forward Hinge Canopy (FHC). The modification was adopted due to safety concerns due to the fact that a side hinged canopy can open in flight with distracting consequences at best. The FHC can still open in flight; however, the result is much less distracting and therfore more safe.

In addition, the turtleback and the canopy were modified to provide 1.75" more height and up to 2" more width.

I traced out the J-1 thru J-5 jigs. I am adding 1.75" to the height of each jig and 1" from centerline for a total of 2" in width except for J-5 which I added .75" from centerline for a total of 1.5". I retraced out a cut out for the top firewall to match the increased width and height, keeping the general shape of the firewall.
