Brief Description:  Installing the Electric Nose Gear System

The electric nose gear bracket was re-installed into the NG-30 frame. After the bracket was installed the gear extension tube, gears, and motor assembly was installed.

The Mechanical override system was used to extend down to connect the MKNG-3; however, the gears started making a growling sounds. I contacted Jack Wilhelmson to ask his opinion on what could be causing it. I have included it below.

>>Michael:

>>The alignment and clearance of the u joints to the brackets is rather critical. Check to make sure >>they are all in line and are not rubbing. Also, it has been a long time ago but the shaft on some >>units is a separate part going in to the motor it maybe damaged or broken. Check it.

I took the unit back out and removed the bracket. It was binding some mainly due to the fact I had painted the small tube connecting the u-joints though the bracket. I took all of the paint off. I also opened up the top of the gear box for an inspection. There was some small debris in the gears, but nothing obviously causing a problem. The motor shaft appeared to be fine and as one shaft through the motor. I had removed the motor mounting bolts in the inspection which had been loctited with blue loctite. I have ordered it but it is not arriving for a few days. I re-assembled to test the unit, I could not reproduce any gear growling. I am not sure what I fixed. My guess for now is that it was the u-joints binding in the bracket putting pressure into the gears.
