The existing panel as per the plans will not work well with the large holes that will be necessary for the EFIS screens. Plus I wanted to have a panel that had a carbon fiber finish. I layed up two BID Carbon Fiber and five BID E-Glass to make a panel about 1/16" thick. The CF was layed up on a smooth piece of plastic to give it a glossy finish. The back was peel ply'd to assist in attachehing more supports.
I used a composite plywood board 1/8" to develop a template of the existing Instrument Panel. I transferred this to the CF/Glass sheet and cut out the panel.
I intend to use the two inchs of the existing IP attached to the fuselage to develop an attachment flange. I will also leave 2" above each control stick panel and the entire center section up to the top of the leg holes will be left to attach to.
