Brief Description:  Fuel Valve, Electric Pump and Gascolator

After finishing painting, the fuel system was installed. The fuel valve had already been installed earlier. It was moved from the plans location upto in front of the throttle quadrant. This was all reinstalled. The line from the valve is run over the center heat duct. It has been connected to a pre-filter from EFFII # FF-2. The filter is mounted above the landing gear.

The fuel pump, provided by Air Flow Performance # HW-3801, is mounted under the center spar. The bolts are attached to the firewall with the bolt heads on the engine side.

The outlet of the pump was tubed to a stainless bulk head fitting. It is intended to hook a hose directly to the fitting and feed to the mechanical fuel pump.

Two other filters have been installed. They were obtained from Summitt Racing. They are an AllStar Performance ALL-40218 filter. It is a 12" long 2" Diamtere filter rated to 63 microns. The media is a SS mesh. They are installed under the back seat arm rest. A ball valve has been installed upstream to allow working without emptying the tank. The valve will be safety wired open.

The extra filters have been installed for a couple of reasons.
1) Many Rutan style planes have had issues with fiberglass particles from the construction causing pluggage of the filiter. If you have only one filter, then the engine is starved of fuel. With a filter on each tank, the pilot has an oppurtunity to swap to the other tank with a presumably good filter.
2) These filters have significant more filter area than any other filter that I have been able to find. This will make sure that there is very little pressure drop loss. On the suction side of the pump, this is important.
