Brief Description:  Installing Fuel Caps

The port strake fuel cap was marked on the strake using the drawings in Ch 21. It is at 105.5" FS and 42.5" BL. The outer skin was cutsufficiently to remove the outer skin but not the foam. The foam was then cut to match the fuel cap recepticle. This exposed the inside skin of the tank. It was marked to indicate the piece to remove. Everything was cleaned up and a fresh exacto knife was used to cut the piece out. After some trimming the recepticle was able to fit into the holesufficiently so the the fuel cap will be flush with the outer skin. The recepticle flange was drilled to provide holes for the flox to anchor the recepticle.

The cable and the ground wire that had been installed before the strack was closed was fished out successfully. The ground wire was connected to the cable using a crimp connection. I had hoped to connect the ground wire to the recepticle, but I could not get any solder to stick to that metal.
