Brief Description:  Lighting Systems

Several years ago, two halogen lights had been installed in the nose to provide landing and taxi light coverage. They would have been barely adequate. I decided to move towards the newer LED technology that was not available when originally installed.

The biggest challenge is that the lights are significantly larger. The F0 forward bulkhead that supports the nose cone was cut to allow for the lights to fit. Some studs were floxed to F0 to provide mounting. One is angled down slightly for a landing light and the other is straight ahead for taxi. On the Vertical Power system, they are congifured for Wig Wag.

The lights that were used were purchased from superbrightleds.com. The model number is WLM-27W-R30. It accepts 9-32 VDC, it has a 30°Beam pattern, it is IP68 waterproof, and is cool white. They pull about 1.8 amps each or about 22 W. They provide 1600 lumens.

The result is much brighter than the halogens are more than sufficient as landing and taxi lights. Initial indications are that they do not generate sufficient heat to be a concern.
