Brief Description:  Pressi in aileron hinge bearings, rivet assemblies

Well, it actually took longer, but only because I was doing the work at the 2011 Flagstaff Airport Open House. You can see my RV-6A parked in the first picture, second from left, where I stood and answered questions from all who came - that slowed me down quite a bit. But I am reasonably sure that it would only have taken an hour or two withoiut the interruptions.

Since I didn't have my vice available, I used a C-clamp. The instructions call for using a 7/16" socket to push the bearing and a 9/16" socket to nest it (push into). Well, I needed a 5/8" socket to do the nesting. It was also difficult to keep the sockets aligned on the clamp. This would have been a breeze on the vice in my hangar, but I eventually prevailed.

Once the bearings were pressed in, it was much easier to clamp the outer parts over them, cleco the rest of the assembly, and do the riveting. I started with the flush rivets, using a squeezer, and then moved to the universal rivets. #4 rivets are tough to set with a squeezer and my hands were giving out as I finished, but the parts looked very good.

Rivet count: 60 Total: 6629 - Plus 549 done at Van's
