Brief Description:  Radio install

Got the ground wire connected. Rather than fight under the panel with clipping and re-fastening all the cable ties, I realized I could just pull all the fastons off the forest of tabs, then the bundle of grounds would fold out from under the panel. Did that, clipped the cable ties, pulled out the extra wires from the old radio, put in the one for the new one, and while it was loose, soldered an extension onto what turned out to be the engine fault light lead (which I had accidentally cut when clipping the cable ties off when trying to work on the bundle in position under the panel). Also soldered extensions onto the low voltage light - which I realized now installs completely from behind the panel so I didn't need to cut the leads in the first place! Also figured out my box of tools was missing the crimper for the antenna cable, so couldn't get that done. And in all this, I grabbed the hot end of the soldering iron - while using one hand to hold 2 wires in place, balancing the solder and a small work area on my knees in the seat, I had to reach over the cockpit side to where I had hung the iron by its cord. Nice 2nd degree burns on index finger and thumb. Not a great day, but a day with some airport time can't be bad. Later this evening I located the antenna cable crimper in another box of wiring stuff in the garage. I'm operating out of so many little cardboard boxes now I'll create a dedicated "electrical tools" tool box - probably as soon as this job is done. An excuse to go tool box shopping...
