Brief Description:  GPS mount

Made a backing plate for the GPS mount from .060 which sits below the glareshield. Then bolted the RAM mount ball to the glare shield. With the backing plate, this location becomes really solid. I am giving up the top center instrument location for the GPS. I'll have a blank-off plate in there should I decide to relocate the GPS later, I can bump the Airspeed up to that hole. As it is, the GPS above the top of the panel like that doesn't get into the sight line out the windshield. Had my first flight in 8 years today. The instructor said I did really well (and I was surprised myself). He figured it was mainly because I wasn't flying around seeing the sights when I last flew, I was a CFI with a few students. Anyway, it was a Rans S-12. Never got much above 80mph, and the stalls are quite benign. I was impressed with how little runway it used, but with the engine on top, it seemed to really stick itself to the ground when takeoff power was added. 100hp Rotax really gets up and goes. After he showed me one landing, I made about 6 more. This was with a 20mph crosswind aloft shearing down to about 5mph just above the ground.
