In just under an hour, I got the windshield installed. See how easy that was if the stinking bow wasn't tapped? I didn't get all the nuts on at the forward edge or towards the front of the cockpit sides. Definitely need a helper for that. And because of my work-around for the bow (not tapping it), I have some temporary fasteners in there, but it's together. Oh, and I did a little experiment - the screws will pull dimples into the fuselage side material if you turn the nut and just hold the screw steady. I did this on a little practice piece first to check that the polycarbonate is solid enough to pull in a dimple. Not sure if I saw it right, but I think on the Sonex factory airplanes (at least the newer ones) they are skipping the c-sunk fasteners on the windshield sides. Not much drag advantage, and it avoids the entire "pulling a dimple" operation. After all that, I'm not yet thrilled with the optics of the whole arrangement. Looking through bent polycarbonate at such a steep angle, what you see is definitely wavy. I looked at the sheet in a flat condition - it's perfectly fine, even at a steep angle, so I think it's the combination of bending and steep look through angle that is doing it. I'll check this on other Sonex.
