Brief Description: Windshield installation
|
|
Got the replacement polycarbonate earlier in the week. Made the initial cuts in about 1/2 hour after using the first windshield as a template - but extended the sides down farther. About 3/16" at the forward end, about 1 1/2" at the aft end. Spent the next 3 hours fitting the windshield to the fuselage, marking for trim, removing, trimming, etc. Took the sides down in 1/16" - 1/8" increments until it fit nice. Fabricated the .025 strip that goes along the windshield bow that adjoins the canopy. Got it fit into place and decided to make a tool to get the holes through it, the windshield bow and the windshield all lined up. Took a few minutes to make up the tool out of some scraps. Still need to drill these holes along the windshield bow, remove the windshield, countersink the holes there at 5/32, drill those holes up to 11/64, and paint the rivets on the glare shield which have not yet been painted. Also paint the trim strip and windshield bow then install all the screws.
