Brief Description: Forward sides install
|
|
Positioned the forward fuselage sides on the tail cone. The left side fits really nice, the splice plates are tight all around (good fit). The right side is a disaster. It's a full 3/16" too tall at the splice plates. Meaning with the top splice plate clamped tight, the bottom of the panel hangs 3/16" below the bottom skin of the tail cone. I thought about shimming this (adding shims between the splice plates and the longerons on the cockpit side) and figured this is going to introduce non-squareness in everything else. What to do about the spar box, levelling the thing, it just multiplies into a bunch of compensations that I won't know are right. Not sure if I'll drill the details off the existing skin or what. I vaguely remember the skin itself being maybe 1/16" too high at that point, but I guess the longerons shifted a little as well (the upper one is higher than the skin, the lower one is lower). It remains about 1/8" too high at the front, so shimming would give an inconsistent result, and I don't have the firewall skin for a quick reference of squareness in that direction.
