Brief Description:  Reseal valve

Disassembled the parts off the tank. Soaked in mineral spirits. The blue stain from the avgas disappears almost immediately. The brown gunk that I had used as sealant (a so-called "sealant") is more persistent. Let it get soft in the spirits for a few hours, scraped most of it off with a knife blade, soaked some more, wiped, scraped, etc. until the parts were clean. Just for good measure, bought a new valve at the local hardware store (exactly the same one that Wicks sells). Tonight, broke out the proseal and gooped all that stuff back together. Good old PR-1440 B-1/2 polysulfide. Why did I ever mess with that other stuff. Just buy the semkits from Van's and be done with it. Sure, the 6 oz portion is a ton more than is used on just a few fittings, and the $15 tube is only good for 1/2 hour of pot life, but to not worry about it again it's worth it. Tomorrow I may put the tank back in or may mess with the firewall fitting or the new tube between the filter and the firewall.
