Brief Description:  Copperstate 2008

Saw 3 Sonex at Copperstate this year. Talked to them about engine cooling. Between them, I think I can tweak a few things and make a big difference. One is opening up the exhaust openings and extending the flow deflection lip a little. Another is adding a middle "fence" over the center cylinders - just a little flow deflection ramp to get the flow off the top of the baffle and moving down to the middle cylinders. The third has to do with the inlet, particularly on the right side - make that as much a ramp shape as possible to get the flow going up into the baffle. Looking at other Jabiru 3300 installations (on other types), they put air deflection baffles only to about 1/2 way up the cylinder (right on the cylinder centerline), so my baffles may still be too tall. I'll apply all this except the exhaust openings and see where it gets, then maybe add the exhaust opening mods. They also all said the temps come down a lot after some number of hours running (hours varies - between 15 and 60).
