Called the avionics shop about dropping off the radio and set up an appointment to have the transponder checked. They have a mobile unit to check at your hangar, but prefer me to taxi it over to theirs where it is air conditioned. There's 2 checks for VFR - one that ties the encoder to the altimeter (done once for VFR), and the biennial check of transponder function - recurring for VFR, but only checks the transponder transmission, not the encoder function. Also laid out and cut out a small plate to mount the slip/skid ball to the panel.
