Brief Description:  Fuel tank straps

Fabricated the fuel tank straps from .060. Bent the short ends in the vise, then rolled the radius into the straps by forming over the vise shaft. Pretty easy to get a nice fit to the tank like this. Marked the centerline of the bottom of the tank with masking tape (pen won't write on the plastic tank at all). Then marked how long the straps should be - they are each about an inch too long. I then marked where they should be cut, made the cuts, bent the tabs on the end, drilled the bolt holes, and installed in the fuselage without the glare shield in place. Set the tank in place over this - it looks like it sits pretty high, so I expect I will use some extra -10 bolts on the sides instead of the -5's to lower the straps a little. Then I cut the felt for the tank top and glued it in place. The felt is 1/8" thick 1 1/2" wide 25-foot roll from Mcmaster. Others have reported that the felt made the tank so high it would not fit under the glare shield, but I'm optimistic I can get the straps a little lower to make it work. Removed the tank, put the glare shield in place and drilled the rivet holes along the sides to final size. Drilled the hole in the firewall for the bulkhead elbow. Made a spacer plate for the elbow (it can't tighten down on the thin firewall, plus it will give more stability to the elbow). I set the motor mount in place to see where the elbow ends up relative to the tubes. Looks like maybe a 45 degree bulkhead elbow would be better than the 90.
