I neglected to install the static ports before I finished the tail cone so my options for location were limited. I located them just behind the baggage compartment on both sides of the aircraft.
I made a shim with a hole in it for the nipple, and then sanded the nipple flush with the skin thickness.
Unfortunately, the first hole I drilled was directly in line with one of the side skin rivets so I relocated it about 10mm lower, leaving a hole in the skin. This hole will be filled and painted over with a red circle around the port and a label denoting that it is a static port. So the final product will not show the "oops" hole and should look nice.
I have an alternate static source behind the instrument panel with a toggle switch, which is recommended by TAF.
