Brief Description:  Alignment of tail Spar

One of the things needed in building the tail is to understand the alignment. To do this, we need to know the line that the horizontal tail spar will sit . It is perpendicular to the fuselage centerline. First I shot a laser down the center to establish the centerline on the floor. Then I measured from the centerlin a fixed distance (43.125 inches) from the centerline on each side of the fuselage. This will be the tips of the tail. Then I attached a string to the front of the fixture on the centerline. The string was then intersected with the 43.125 line on the left side, then that distance was transferred to the right side. A line was drawn through both intersections. This line is perpendicular to the fuselage centerline. The laser was then used to shoot a line where the spar will be located parallel to the datum established above. This was drawn on the floor and will be used to align the tail. Supports were then drilled into the floor to aid in supporting the tail when built. I anticipate that I will be able to build up the tail substructure on the bench and then just use the supports to hold it in the proper alignment for skinning.
