Brief Description: Splice skin fabrication
|
|
Work began on fabricating the left and right-side splice skins to attach the forward to aft fuselage. The skin fits under the forward skin and over the aft skin. There is a bit of a reflex in the skin, so it must be held tight when drilling. The forward end needs to fit around the flap drive torque tube while also providing a flange to mate with the splice flange bolted around the flap torque tube. There is a double row of rivets needed at the forward and aft interfaces (I presume ...none of this is depicted in the plans) But at any rate, I'm using a double row of 1/8 rivets at a 1.25 spacing. (probably overkill, but better safe...). Once the skins are fully drilled in and raised to 1/8 diameter, the skins will be removed, trimmed, flanges angled down, deburred, dimpled, primed, painted, then finally installed. It's a process.
