Brief Description:  Engine Ring Mount & Water Pump Right Side

The Ring Motor Mount location conflicts with the water pump socket on the right side. That’s the right side of the engine from the back of the gyro looking forward. There are two methods to fix this issue that I know of.

How to change orientation of water pump sockets.

Method # 1
If you wish to rotate an aluminum socket to a different position, you must first completely remove the socket; clean the threads, apply fresh green Loctite 648, and reinstall the fitting, stopping at the correct angle as the threads begin to tighten. Here are a few hints on the best way to accomplish this.
Carefully heat the socket to about 180°F with a propane torch to release the Loctite as you attempt to remove it. Apply rotational pressure as you heat it so you will know instantly when it is warm enough (loosens) to avoid overheating the part. Be warned, you will probably destroy the socket as you remove it, so have new sockets on hand before you begin this process. If you attempt to rotate a socket, even a little, it will leak unless you follow the procedure outlined above and completely remove and reinstall it. In the engine shop at Lockwood Aviation Repair, we use an M18-by-1 tap to clean the threads before attempting to screw in a new socket with fresh Loctite. If you don’t have a tap, then carefully use a scribe to clear the threads of residual green Loctite before attempting to install a new fitting.

Method # 2
Just grab hold of the socket and turn it out of there, destroying the socket completely. Clean up the threads and apply fresh locitie 648 to socket and let cure for 48 hrs.
I used method #1 only because I did not want to buy new sockets. Now I find that the 45 degree socket on the bottom right will not work in any angle. I will need an 80 degree socket for the bottom.

Image 1 shows some the item needed for the operation.
Image 2 shows me that there is no good way to make the bottom 45 degee work.

P.S. With infrared thermometer aimed at part and heated. The socket will start to turn right at 180°F.
