Brief Description: Disassembly Initiated for Body Mods and Paint
On September 28 I will transport the helicopter to Tulsa, Oklahoma for fiberglass body modifcations and painting. Randy Conwell is an autobody guy who owns a Rotorway. He has modified the fiberglass body using interlocking panels to greatly reduce the use of screws. In addition, the windscreen is fiberglased in giving a streamlined appearance. The ship he recently completed painting won Grand Champion at Oskosh 2005.
I started disassemloing everything in order to remove the ship from my basement workshop. Along the way I am checking bolts for the proper length and any other tidbits that show up.Performing the build at home has been wonderful - even having to assemble and disassemble a few times. The time I have saved by not having to drive back and forth to the airport and being able to work in short spurts has made the project much more enjoyable. I have learned a great deal during the build and each time I break the ship down I find areas to improve on.
