Brief Description:  False and Center Ribs

With my parents invited up for the long Columbus weekend, I was motivated to get other projects and honey-do's out of the way so Dad and I could get some build time in.

After putting Dad in charge of smoothing operations, I went to work on forming what I already had done. Dad used a combination of files, sanding blocks, and 1" wide aluminum oxide sandpaper to get each rib free of any machining marks that the router may have left. (Harbor Freight sells 1" x 50 yd rolls of aluminum oxide for just $5.99!)

I was able to form the four False Ribs that go behind the false spar, 1 Aileron Rib, and 1 Flap Rib. I got those all smoothed, flanged, and fluted. Then as Dad would hand me a smooth 0.025" Center Rib, I would flange those as well. After hammering the flanges to the 90 degree position (-ish), I would take a pair of duck bill pliers, with duct tape wrapped around the jaws, and get the flanges as straight as I could prior to fluting.
