Brief Description:  Rudder Post bearing and Elevator

Did find my way out to the shop this morning, to address Steps 42, 43, and 44. All about beginning to assemble the empenage. Step 42 consists of installing 4 Rivet Nuts in the back of the Body Tube. These will serve as attach points for the elevator, and allow for swift disconnection. A good thing, too, as I will explain below. Actually, this step was already completed for me at the factory. Lucky, because it looks like the tolerences are pretty tight. I did need to drill out and replace one rivet, but other than that it was good.

Step 43 consists of assembling a few highy specific pieces related to the rudder. These allow the rudder post to slide from top-to-bottom through the Body Tube, and move freely. Beautiful pieces, and, harkening back to my scratch building days, I have absolutely no idea how I could ever build these on my own. Luckily, wth the kit I don't have to.

Step 44 constist of hanging the Elevator [mine cam completely pre-built] from those Rivet Nuts described above. A cool design, and, as always, high-quality, tight-fitting parts.

So here is where the high-class problem appears. As I am building in a 1.5 car detached garage, I always knew I would run out of spave, eventually. I have avoided this to date through a highly modular approach, with lots of shelving and the wings on a rolling cradle that can be stowed outside while I work. At the end of the session, I puzzle all of the parts back together safely inside the shop. With installation of the Elevator, however, my lack of space has caught up with me. The elevator is more than 8 feet wide! I can't even get it through the garage door, much less move the plane freely around the shop with it attached. YES, it is made to pop off easily for transport, but I definitely need it on in order to make all of the control system hookups that consist of the next several steps. The only real way to do that is to have the plane half rolled out of the garage in order to buy myslef space to operate. But it is getting cold... SO, two
