This was a tricky installation. The clecos on the front of the elevator prevented me from attaching the elevator to the hinge while the hinge was still attached to the horizontal stabilizer. I decided the easiest way to proceed would be to remove the pin and split the hinge.
This was risky because if both halves of the hinge are not perfectly straight, the hinge will not bend properly. I carefully made sure the hinge was straight on the elevator. To make sure the hinge would bend properly, I put the hinge back together. I positioned it carefully on the elevator and checked straightness and made sure there was no binding in the hinge when flexed. I drilled and clecoed.
Then the big test. I removed the top clecoes on the front of the elevator so I could position the elevator up to the HS. I removed the hinge pin and clecoed the other half of the hinge to the HS. With Trude's help, I carefully aligned the elevator and the HS and reinserted the pin.
