Brief Description:  Prepping strips for Diaphragm #5

First, I ripped all the cap strip I bought in half on the band saw, then sanded them "just a little thinner" than they were from the Aircraft Spruce. The capstrip was 3/16" thick, but the plans call for 1/6". So, I took .020" off on my drum sander. I pondered whether I needed to do this, but I experimented with bending the 3/16" stock around the jig and then with a thinner strip. It was easier to bend around the jig, so I went with that approach. Once all 72 strips were sanded I cut the scarf angle on the end of each strip with the jig. It worked quite nicely. Then, I glued up one scarf joint, with T-88. I waited about 4 hrs, opened it up, sanded the squeezeout off of the joint and tried to bend it around the jig. At the sharpest end of the jig, the joint came apart. Bummer. What did I do wrong. Well, I think I didn't let the glue dry over night. I noticed that as it came apart the glue literally streached and tore. It still looked viscus. So, I recut the scarf on both strips, reglued it up and let it set in the clamps while I left on a business trip. We'll see if it is hard when I get home.
