Brief Description:  Fuselage Rotisserie, Part 1

Okay, how do you paint all the way around an object if the bottom is laying on stands? Also, how do you easily get access to the underside of an item and the top and sides of something when you need?

The answer that I came up with is my Fuselage Rotisserie. It's basically a pretty simple device that allows me to easily rotate my fuselage to almost any angle and either allow it to free-balance (ie: it stays where you put it) of lock it in position.

The first thing that I needed to do was determine the pivot points. In my case, the nose of my Falcon XP fuselage has a very convenient hole out the front where the canard will mount. This needed to be drilled out to 3/8" for the canard mounting bolt, so I went ahead and did that now and stuck a long 3/8" in there as you can see in the first picture. That established one point.

But, what do I do about the rear pivot point? The aft end of the fuselage had no such convenient point as it flows up aft of the cockpit area. It does, however, have a strong area where the engine will be mounted, so I made a simple attachment that basically extends straight down from the aft most point of the fuselage. As you can see, I used a fair amount of triangulation to ensure that it would be strong enough to take the bending/flexing loads.FYI: It uses a single 4"x4" piece of wood mounted to 1/2" plywood. It's all screwed together, and is bolted to the fuselage using the same mounting holes that the engine mount will.
