Brief Description:  Forward Pedal Assembly, Part 2

The rudder pedal assembly is mounted in the fuselage using nylon blocks that come pre drilled and ready to bolt on. The instructions said to drill through the "rudder-pedal block dimples on each side of pod below torque tube holes." My fuselage pod only had dimples on the left side, not both. There are two composite structures that are drilled through (outer and inner fuselage skins), so the drilling not only needs to start in the right location so it matches the pre-drilled holes in the mounting blocks, but they also need to be at the correct angles. In other words, it would be very easy to have the four mounting holes that you drill not be right. What a mess that would be.

So, what I did ws drill one hole from the outside using a dimple and put one bolt in the mounting block. In the first picture that's the leftmost bolt. I had previously measured the slope of the fuselage using the angle finder shown, so I put a tempoary nut on the bolt (the included nylok nut should only be used once, and I was going to be removing this a number of times) and applied some pressure to hold the block in place. I then set the top of the block to the fuselage pod angle using the guage shown. Then I was able to drill from inside the fuselage using the mounting block as a guide. I would drill one hole, insert a bolt, drill another hole, insert another bolt and so on until the holes were all drilled. I then removed the mounting block, cleaned up the holes that I had drilled in the fuselage (deburred), and then mounted the block.

The second picuture shows the left mounting block in place. If you look closely you'll notice that the rear bottom nut (lower left part of the picture) has not been tightened, but the other three have. This is because this nut and washer will be in the way when the rudder pedal assembly is actually installed, and will need to be removed and reinserted. Since Nylok nuts are only good once (or twice?), it has not been wasted.

The third picture shows both the left and right (part and starboard?) rudder
