Brief Description:  VS deburrinng & Dimpling

Tonight I dismantled the Vertical Stabilizer and began to deburr all holes and edges. I used the scotch-brite wheel on the grinder and for the major parts, then the smaller wheel on the die grinder. I also deburred all of the holes with the speed defurring tool. I decided to drill out the lightening holes on the spar doubler, per the plans. I got to use the hole maker attachment on the drill press. This worked well and produced a lot of aluminum tailings. (shop vac again, after each hole was drilled out). I then deburred the holes and they look great. I used the soldering iron again the remove the protective plastic on the skins before I dimpled. The only thing left to do on the VS is to countersink the spar flanges and these parts will be ready for primer.Speaking of primer, I've finally decided how I am going to prime. I will use the Alumiprep/ alodine/ AKZO primer method. I know this will be a lot of extra work, but I think I will make a better plane, especially for resale value. I can get all the stuff locally, except the AKZO primer. I'm looking at a local alternative (PPG), but I don't think I can get it in green (as you know, plane parts are primed in GREEN!!). More on this tomorrow.I also checked with Van's website to see the lead times for the wing kit......8 weeks! I've decided to go ahead and order the wing kit and get myself a place in line. I don't want to get the Empennage complete and then have to wait weeks to begin the wings. I don't think the Empennage is going to take that long to complete.I also finally reserved my N number today. I've decide to go with N920JW. 9 & 20 is the month & day Wendy and I were married and JW is for Joe & Wendy.....works for me!
