My v-block arrived and I tried to use it on the drill stand to drill the holes for the bolts that secure the axles to the weldments and that secure the weldments to the gear legs.
Drilling the holes for the bolts that secure the weldments to the gear legs was quite straight forward.
Drilling the holes for the bolts that secure the axles to the weldments, not so easy. The size and shape of the weldment with the axle in place makes it diffficult to position in a v-block. Also the axle is very hard material and difficult to drill.
In the end it was a combination of drill press and hand drill, starting with a small drill bit and increasing sizes incrementally until the full 1/4" size was reached.
