Brief Description: Lower wing skin prep
|
|
Finishing up!!! Lower wing skins deburred, dimpled, attached temporarily to wing. I decided to not rivet lower wing skins for now in case I change my mind about wiring, servo install, etc, to keep easy access. There are 3 access holes as seen in pic 1, but it is easier if skins can be removed. So, I will do these when the plane is getting close to final assembly and heading to the airport hanger a couple years from now. Only things left otherwise is install servo mount (TruTrak kit came in), but I will likely wait. Oh yeah - I will need an hour to install nutplates on access holes and finish up access covers. Fuselage should be here soon (week??). Pic 2 shows the Fowler type flap (most RV's have flaps that hinge at the lower skin/spar). On the RV-9, these hinge from a lower center (brackets in slipstream), allowing the lowering flap to translate back a few inches, too. All modern airliners use a more dramatic Fowler flap that runs back along a track (covered by canoe fairings that you see projected from wing trailing edge). At typical takeoff setting, the flap movement in an airliner is almost all backward, with just 5-10 degrees downward deflection, increasing wing area.
