Brief Description:  finish deburr, countersink, dimple, prime parts

Finished deburring (spars), then countersunk the thick spars. The countersink cage seen in photo 1 allows for consistent depth hole to hole. After that, I dimpled all the ribs with the squeezer - could average 1 dimple per second (photo 2). Lastly, the skins were dimpled with the DRDT-2 (ahhh, raining outside, Pink Floyd on the radio - wonderful session in the garage today!).I then primed evrything, and made my significant error - it will be posted in the entry dated tomorrow, as I can only post 3 pics daily. Regarding priming - there is considerable debate on this as I may have mentioned in a prior entry. Many of the big manufacturers, like Cessna, do not prime the interiors. Forty years later, mechanics who do inspections note immaculate aluminum without significant corrosion. Many RV builders do it, though - why? Bottomline, there is a 'religious' element to this, despite evidence that it is not necessary unless one keeps the plane near the ocean. Even Van's doesn't say much on this, other than it is the builder's discretion. There also may be a perception that resell value in enhanced when primed. Now, the above comments apply to ALCLAD only, which is aluminum alloy that has a pure coating of aluminum that will oxidize and form an excellent corrosion barrier. Any fabricated parts, those that are not ALCLAD, all need priming, and everyone is in agreement. in the HS, all spars, ribs, and skins are ALCLAD, and only two L-brackets I fabricated are not.For now, I am priming mating surfaces only (and ribs exposed on the ends where the elevator hinges), and areas that are scratched . For the Napa 7200 primer to adhere, light scuffing is needed, but I am doing it very lightly to avoid removing the pure aluminum coating. No point removing one barrier just to add another. In the future, I may bag the priming altogether on ALCLAD.
