Brief Description:  Plumbing complete-Check list complete on avionics

We have had a terrible wild fire raging near here for the last 2 weeks. There was no wind this morning which is good for the fire but smoke just hugs the ground. Image #1 shows a fire fighter helicopter from Oregon that is grounded on our airport. This was due to the low visibility caused by smoke. Not only can't the planes fly, but it makes it hard to work in our hangar (KAYS). We did however get much done today.
We finished running all the plumbing to the instruments for static and pitot. You can see in Image #2 there are many connections. All the connections and tubing seen in Image #2 will stay with the panel when we take it out and the only connections we will make on reinstallation will be from the AOA computer which will stay in the plane.
We wanted to check for static leak but couldn't figure a way since there is no avionics shop on the field. I called Tommy Bragg down in Jacksonville, the man who did my checks on the Cherokee 140, and he had a great suggestion! He told me to suck gently on the static line until the altimeter read 1000 feet and then stick my tongue over the hole and watch to see if the altimeter leaked down; which it didn't!!!! However I have a sore tongue! This is the price one has to pay when building an airplane.
After finishing plumbing, we did a thorough check out of the whole panel. We check to make sure both relays closed appropriately and the mag P-leads functioned, as did the started switch. Both radios, the autopilot, the pitot heater circuit, the AOA, the enunciators, the EFIS, the GPS including the cross feeding circuit, and the EIS worked!
We need to clean up our routing a bit and then make a note of how we disconnect everything and where the plugs are so that when we reinstall the panel later, we won't miss anything.
