Brief Description:  Cradle and Dual Cross Country

Started out the day prepping for my dual cross country, lots of calcs, trying to do everything old school so I know I know how. Then pulling out IPad and what took me 30 minutes to do by hand, takes about 5 mins to do on Ipad, plus 1000X more data and details available. BUT, Alas, I must learn the basics as I know that our check ride guy frowns on students using tech in the cockpit...

Flight to PK went really well, we did experience what I think might have been a thermal on approach to Graham which surprised us both as it was really smooth the whole way, then all the sudden we were banked about 20 degrees. We both yanked the plane back and looked at each other - Andrew thinking I screwed something up, and me knowing that I didn't do it. Anyway, We hit one other on the way back home, so felt better knowing I didn't just yank the yoke without realizing it. At Graham I had to execute a go around as I was way to close and nothing was flowing right. We were too close, I was having to turn too sharp, I was too high, too fast. Absolutely nothing was right! But, at least I realized it and called the go around early. 2nd was better. Then our last landing back at Spinks we had some crosswind and I struggled (again) keeping lined up. I made Andrew promise that we would do some slips skipping across Spinks next time we're up. First left wheel, then up, then right wheel, then up, etc so I can get that coordination/confidence down.

Started work on the cradle. Just used some of the wood from the crate, turned 2x4s on their side and beefed them up some with the plywood, put 4x350# casters so they should hold just about anything. I actually finished the cradle the next day, which the pictures show. I folded some old bath towels and screwed them with a washer into the frame. Seemed to work pretty good. I had more padding on the hull profile than on the sides, thus the slight gap. Looking at the stringers and the hull strength - it obviously won't be an issue.
