Brief Description:  Background

I've always wanted to fly. Top Gun was one of my favorite movies in high school. I joined the Navy and became a Nuke, but secretly really wanted to fly those Tomcats! Fast forward to 2011. I ran across the Searey website and it looked very intriguing to me, I had recently read an article about amphibians and kit building in general and decided it was something I wanted to know more about. Well, the more I researched, the more I realized that I may have found the perfect airplane. My lovely wife suggested buying me a test ride in a Searey at their factory in Tavares, I already had a trip scheduled for business about an hour away, so I extended my stay a day and went up with Kerry Richter. Let's just say I was hooked, and had that stupid grin from ear to ear for many weeks afterward.

Then, in the summer of 2012, I made a decision to go for it. But first, I had to become a pilot! That's right, ZERO hours so far. So, I researched local schools, found one that fit and so I am also currently taking flying lessons. I knew that there would be some dual motivational reinforcement going on between learning to fly and finishing my plane.

So, there will surely be some notes regarding flying lessons thrown here and there for good measure. I will try and keep the log at least interesting and helpful to those who might read it later. I know I spent many a night up looking at Searey builder logs before I actually pulled the trigger...

Enjoy!
