My story begins about a year ago. My lovely wife, Leah, gave me a wonderful birthday present - a one hour demo ride in a Searey in Tavares. I had been looking at taking up flying and ran across an article on the Searey and I immediately fell in love with it. So I extended a business trip I had in the area and went flying with Kerry Richter, and I must say that I was hooked. It took about a year of reflection, thinking about how I wanted to reach my goal, researching options and, of course, figuring out how to get my Pilot's License... That's right, I wasn't even a pilot yet! But realizing that I was hooked, I researched a local school and took the dive. I solo'd on labor day, and just placed my order for a new Searey LSX which was confirmed today. I had always believed that the best way to go about building the plane - and getting my pilot's license - is to do them together. Dual motivation, reinforcing each other, and allowing me to have a bit of break from the other from time to time, so, I'm going to use this log to document my progress. Hopefully it will be helpful to both myself and others moving forward, and perhaps at times amusing. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

If you've never flown in an amphibian - specifically a flying boat - I highly recommend it, very much like a go-cart in the sky! Searey seems to be the best value and I'm looking forward to making it my very own.

Along for the ride - Jonathon, my 21 yr old son with CP and wheelchair bound. He is a big reason I am doing this, both for the build (he loves to help his Dad) and later, for the flying together. My youngest son, Blake, who is less interested at this point, but hopefully will catch the bug as we progress, and my lovely wife Leah - who's emotions range from excitement over how excited I am, to shear fear of flying with me... This should be interesting!
