Brief Description: Alternator Mounting and Wiring 2
Now that the alternator is mounted I need to wire it up. The regulator internal to the alternator has no overvoltage protection. To protect the system from overvoltage, I added a relay on the output of the alternator. The relay closes when the main buss is powered. There is a crowbar over-voltage modual on the circuit that will trip the breaker and open the relay in the event of an overvolt condition.
As part of adding the relay I needed to reroute the wires to the alternator. I used some custion clamps on the intake tubes and then ran the wire doen the engine mount. Compared to the prior routing I had around the other side of the engine, this cut out 3-4 feet of heavy 6awg wire.
