With help from my wife, the left wing was rotated to a horizontal position in the jig (I made my jig so I could do this). With the wing horizontal, it is much easier to work on the aileron and flap attachment.
To set the vertical aileron hinge position:
I first used my airfoil templates to hold the aileron to the wing and make sure that the template put the aileron in the correct position. I removed the aileron for now so I could see what I am doing.
I'm not confident in the wood template being accurate to 1/16", so here is my plan of attack:
1) Remove inboard hinge bracket from the aileron (to get it out of the way) and hold the aileron to the wing using the templates.
2) Clamp a straightedge to the template following the line of the wing/aileron.
3) Scribe a line 5/16" down from the edge of the straightedge and place the hinge so the scribe line passes through the center of the bearing.
